What is Accuplacer?

  • The Accuplacer is a self paced, computerized assessment test. Your writing, reading, and math skills will be assessed. This will help your advisor recommend the most appropriate classes for your educational plans. The average assessment time is 1.5 hours. The location of the assessment is in the Student Entry and Advising Center (SEAC) computer lab.

Do I have to take the assessment?

  • All students must take the assessment that plan to register for math or English courses. You may not have to take the assessment if you have math or English credit from another college or university and can provide a transcript. Please see an Educational Advisor in the Student Entry & Advising Center to determine if you will need to take the assessment.

How much does it cost?

  • Students are charged a $15 non‑refundable fee for each session. The assessment fee is required each time a student takes the assessment. Make your payment at the Cashier's Office located on the first floor of the College Service Center at OC Bremerton and keep your receipt. OC Poulsbo does not accept cash at their campus.

What do I need to bring?

  • Bring your receipt, picture identification, and SID# (Student Identification Number) to your assessment session. Submit an Olympic College application form at least 2 days in advance. When your application is processed, you will be issued a Student Identification Number (SID).

How do I schedule the assessment?

  • You may schedule your assessment for the Bremerton campus online or by calling 360.475.7230.
  • Poulsbo - 360.394.2726
  • Shelton -360.432.5400

When should I take the assessment?

  • New students take the Accuplacer before attending their New Student Group Advising session. Morning, afternoon and evening sessions are available throughout the quarter, but fill quickly.

How long do I have to complete the assessment?

  • The Accuplacer assessment is not a timed assessment and most individuals take approximately 1 1/2 hours to complete.

Can I re-take the assessment?

  • Students may take no more than two (2) assessments in a particular section in one calendar year (ex. Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills, Elem. Algebra, Arithmetic, College-level Math) Placement scores are valid for two (2) years.
  • Students are not allowed to retake the Accuplacer assessment after enrolling in a math or English course. Please contact an advisor if you have additional questions.

How long are my scores good for?

  • Placement scores are valid for two (2) years.

How can I prepare for the assessment?

  • We recommend that you prepare before taking the assessment. It is usually not a good idea to take the assessment as a last minute decision. You should ensure that you are mentally and physically prepared. Another resource is the Accuplacer practice test at testprepreview.com.

What if I need special accommodations?

  • Students who require special accommodations must first contact Access Services. They may be reached at 360.475.7540 and are located in Humanities, Room 114.

Where should I park?

  • Permits are required during the academic school year for all on-campus student parking. Visitor Permits for OC Bremerton campus may be obtained at the Student Entry and Advising Center, Registration & Records or the Security Office. Visitors to the OC Shelton campus must sign in at the OC Shelton reception desk. A fee is not required. Street parking is available, but limited, and does not require a permit.

How do I read/translate my results for course placement?
