Question: I know that I am on the waitlist, but I was wondering if there is anyway to know specifics about my standing. I was told I would receive a letter informing me if I were moved into the program, but I was wondering if there were a more direct way to get that information... Thanks
Answer: First let me clarify that Olympic College does not have a waitling list for the nursing program. We use a factoring point system which means whoever has the most points gets into the program. You should have at least heard some communication from the nursing programs office indicating your point totals. If you have not heard anything by mail, I encourage you to contact the nursing programs office at 360.394.2760 and/or the admissions office at 360.475.7479 to ensure that they have the correct contact information on file. You may also check your contact information on OASIS. 2/23/2009Question: What are the starting courses for the Business Management ATA?
Answer: First, to clarify, the Business Management ATA is a non-transferrable degree except to Evergreen State College. It is designed to prepare you for the workforce and not to transfer to a four year college. As a new student to the ATA Business Management program, here are a list of courses to choose a first quarter schedule from;
- ENGL& 101 or pre-requisite
- BMGT 180, Marketing
- BMGT 181, Sales
- BMGMT 147, Human Resources
- BMGMT 170, Customer Service
- BMGT 140 or the prerequisite Math 90
- OFTEC 121 or the prerequisite Math 90
Please choose your classes carefully with your Business Management faculty advisor. Question: Can I take a few prerequisites while in the program?
Answer: Students must have all the prerequisite courses completed in order to be eligible to apply to the nursing program. You can complete "support courses" in between application deadlines and program start dates, but it's not recommended to plan to take those in such a rigorous program, all programs are already full time. 11/25/2008
Question: The last class I need for the business and economics transfer degree is macroeconomics. Since I work full time during the day and OC does not offer the class online or in the early evening during winter 2009 or spring 2009, can I take this class through another community college that does offer it online? If so, how do I get that credit transferred so I can graduate?
Dear Student: I encourage you to double check with your faculty advisor for business transfer to determine course availability. If it is not offered here at the day and time needed, you may earn credit for the course at another accredited institution if you have completed 85 credits at Olympic College. Otherwise, the last 10 credits must be completed here. |

Question: I am a new mom who was interested in doing online courses through OC. Do you offer online courses for a bookkeeping program?
Answer: We do not offer an entire degree or program in Accounting online, however, we do offer a Business and Economics transfer program online which is comprised of several accounting courses. With this degree you can transfer to a four year college and major in accounting. You can work closely with a Business and Economics advisor to determine appropriate courses for your long term goal. For more information on this option follow the link http://www.olympic.edu/Students/DegreesCertificates/TransferPrograms/TBSNS.htm 9/5/2008
Question: I was working towards this degree for a while and now it seems to have been eliminated. Is the ISS AAS degree essentially the same thing?
Answer: Degrees are good for 7 years, so you can continue to work towards it. You should contact your faculty advisor because probably not all the classes required will be offered and substitutions may need to be arranged. Question: I have been on the path for a health care occupation. However, I am currently entertaining the thought of changed directions and becoming a Certified Public Accountant. What programs does OC offer that would help me attain this? Can I do this whole program at OC, or do I need to transfer to a university to finish? Also, how long would it take, from start to finish, for someone to become a CPA? |
|
Dear Student, Olympic College offers an Associate in Arts with a business transfer based curriculum. This will prepare you for a four year course of study in Business and Economics at a four year university or college. To become a CPA, education in total is typically 5 years. Please contact the business transfer advisor, Richard Snapp at rsnapp@olympic.edu to determine if our transfer program is right for you. |
